Why won’t my cat come near me?

In this blog we will look at why your cat won’t come near you – and it might not be for the reasons you think!

I just want a cuddly cat

I’m pretty sure that anyone who decides to be a cat guardian has dreams about having cuddles with said cat. Be it lap, chest, face, pillow or any other type you can think of! Those of us who have an affinity with cats, connect with and resonate with them on many levels. From the different sounds they bring to the home (a meep or meow versus a bark), the different types of energy they demonstrate – even a cat having a mad moment isn’t as intense as a dog catching a ball or jumping up at its guardian. Now this isn’t me hating on dogs before you get all agitated – all I am saying is that there is a uniqueness, a softness that’s cats bring to the home.

BUT … just like humans…every cat is different.

Not all humans like to hug, not all cats are cuddly.

Yet things can change.

Distant to diving in!

When Leo came home to live with me after being feral for the first 18 months of his life and then having 3 months at the rescue centre, he would run and hide when the TV came on. Now he yowls to let me know he’s home and just this morning he came onto the bed and settled on my pillow, cradled in my arms and fell asleep with his head in my hand (heaven!)

Our relationship isn’t always like that though. Sometimes he runs away from me like I’m carrying a torch of fire! Why – because he can sense and feel my vibration. And if it’s low, heavy or dense he wants nothing to do with me. Understandable right, if not a little crushing.

I want a cuddly cat all the time – but cats are sentient. Sensitive.

We don’t act the same way with other humans all the time so why should our cats?

When a colleague or family member is in a grump we steer clear. When the boss (at home or at work!) is raging we give them a wide berth. And that’s what cats do with us.

Working on your vibe is key

More toys, scratching posts, treats, cats, attention – these may make a small dent or difference in your relationship with your cat, but it will only get you so far.

I can go weeks without any real physical connection or interaction with Leo apart from the odd leg rub. And then there are weeks where I get pillow cuddles pretty much every morning. What’s the difference – me and my energy.

You don’t have to sit in silence or stillness for hours each day. But you DO need to tune into your emotions (aka energy) and work with it. The times when Leo and I are closest are when I meditate, journal, accept and process my emotions. NOT when I’m numbing with beige food, Netflix or withdrawing from the outside world.

Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I need those things, but know this my love…the more you find, feel and deal with your own emotions and energy, the more your cat will connect with you. Trust me – I am living proof of this.

This last month since I have fully leant into a higher vibe following the completion of my divorce and owning my home I have been having daily lap cuddles with Leo. Yep you read that right! I’m just as shocked as you are.

How are you doing?

So I ask you my love, take a moment, tune into how you feel, what you need. Working on yourself is the core foundation to a happy cat.

It’s not happy cat = happy human.

It’s happy human = happy cat.

If you need support dealing with your emotions, past trauma or blocked energy take a look at my 1-2-1 healing treatments or perhaps you prefer a community of support, check out my Become a soul led cat guardian programme.

When you take action to help yourself you literally shift your vibe from anger, stress, anxiety, despair, worry, fear aka dense emotions. To hope, optimism, gratitude, peace, faith aka high vibe emotions.

Your cat won’t come near you when you are in the heavier energy, so do you both a favour and take action to help yourself so you can help your cat.

If you want your cat to love you, you need to love you first.

I hope this blog has helped or resonated with you. I would love to work with you to help you shift your vibe and delve into a deeper connection with your cat.
