How Does Colour Therapy Help Cats? A Guide to Chakras and Healing at Home

Discover how giving your cat a choice of colours can support their well-being, balance, and emotional health.

The other morning, as I stood in the shower letting my thoughts wander, I realised something … I’ve never actually written a blog on colour therapy for cats for the Naturally Cats community! Considering it’s one of my favourite topics (and one of the first things I ever learned about when supporting cats), it feels long overdue.

So, let’s dive in.

What is Colour Therapy?

Colour therapy, or chromotherapy, is the practice of using colour to influence mood, energy, and overall well-being. Humans have been drawn to the healing power of colour for centuries. Think of the calming effect of a clear blue sky, the uplifting feel of a sunny yellow room, or the comfort of soft, warm tones in a cosy blanket.

And here’s the beautiful thing our cats respond to colour too. When used as part of holistic cat care, colour therapy can help bring calm, balance, and healing to our feline friends.

Why Use Colour Therapy for Cats?

Cats are incredibly sensitive beings. They feel shifts in energy and emotion far more than we often realise. Colour can be a gentle yet powerful way to:

          • Calm an anxious or stressed cat.
          • Support healing after illness, injury, or surgery.
          • Encourage confidence in a shy or withdrawn cat.
          • Bring balance to a cat who’s feeling unsettled or overstimulated.

By introducing colour as a form of energy healing for cats, you’re offering another layer of natural support for their emotional and physical health.

How does it work?

Each colour carries its own energetic vibration. When a cat is given the choice to interact with a particular colour, they can tune into that frequency and use it to bring their own energy into balance.

This is why I don’t recommend adding colour therapy to a cat’s bed because it removes their ability to decide if and when they want to connect with it.

Instead, the colour should be offered in a way that allows the cat to choose — perhaps as a fabric they can approach, a scarf you hold during a session, or an object placed in a space they freely move through.

When cats have the choice, they can:

          • Balance and align their chakras.
          • Support their own healing, health, and well-being.
          • Experience a sense of autonomy and control in their human-created environment.

That sense of choice is deeply empowering for a cat and forms the foundation of how natural healing for cats can truly work.

A Quick Colour guide

Here’s a simple overview of the seven main cat chakras and the colours that can support them:

          • Red – grounding, and safety.
          • Orange – creativity and self-expression.
          • Yellow – confidence and personal power.
          • Green – balance, harmony, and heart healing.
          • Blue – clear communication.
          • Indigo – intuition, inner knowing, and energetic protection.
          • Violet – spiritual connection, deep healing, and transformation.

🌈 Want to dive deeper into using colour to support your cat’s well-being? 🌈

My Cats and Colour e-book is filled with guidance on choosing the right colours, working with their chakras, and helping them heal in their own way.

How to Start at Home

If you’d like to explore colour therapy for cats in your own home, try this:

        1. Choose a colour based on your cat’s current needs (look at the list above).
        2. Offer it in a way that allows choice such a piece of fabric or coloured paper on the floor.
        3. Watch how your cat responds. Do they seem calmer, more curious, or more relaxed?

By letting your cat guide their own healing journey, you’re helping them feel safe, empowered, and truly understood.

Want to Go Deeper?

This is just the beginning. In my Cats and Colour e-book, you’ll discover:

        • How to match colours to your cat’s emotional and energetic needs.
        • Step-by-step guidance on offering colours in a way that honours their independence and choice.
        • A complete chakra–colour guide showing the physical, emotional, and spiritual connections for each.
        • Practical do’s and don’ts so colour therapy becomes a safe, effective part of your cat’s environment.
